I enjoy pondering hypothetical questions. One fun one I’ve heard tossed around quite a bit is: if you could invite anyone to your house for dinner, who would be on your guest list and why? Assuming that I could only invite real people who are still alive, this is what my five-person guest list would look like.

Dream Dinner Party

Tim Ferriss: Tim’s name was the first one that came to mind when I started considering this question. Not only is he a fascinating person in his own right, but he’s a great questioner and would keep the conversation flowing around our dinner table.

Brené Brown: If I could hand-select any individual to be my personal therapist, Brené Brown would be first choice. I doubt we’d dig into too much individualized therapy in a dinner party setting, but she’d be sure to help set an emotionally appropriate tone for the evening.

J. K. Rowling: I’d love to pick the brain of my favorite author about everything from Potter trivia to her thoughts on writing and insights into the publishing world.

Tom Hanks: Tom Hanks is my favorite actor. He’s also been around for quite a while, so I’m sure he’d have lots of entertaining stories to share about Hollywood life and his fellow celebrities.

George W. Bush: I’d be thrilled to meet any of our nation’s presidents, but George W. would be my top choice for presidential dinner party guest. I’d love to hear about his time in office, his opinions on current politics, and the inside scoop on other national figureheads.

And just for fun (because the above list is totally serious) here’s a look at my fictional guest list:

Fictional Dinner Party Guest List

Leslie Knope (from Parks and Recreation) // Violet Crawley (Downton Abbey) // Albus Dumblebore (Harry Potter) // Tess (Touched by an Angel) // Atticus Finch (as he is in To Kill a Mockingbird, NOT the Atticus of Go Set a Watchman)

I’d love to hear who you will be inviting to your star-studded dinner party!
